Moe’s Favorite Things – Shows to Binge Watch

I’ve seen this question come up a lot from friends on Facebook. I started keeping track of the shows that I’ve binged watched and LOVED! Before you judge me too harshly, this has been over a five year period. I can’t fall asleep too quickly, and it really helps my brain to unwind from the day’s stress to just escape away to Netflix or Hulu.

Here are a few of my Favorite Shows along with a brief synopsis of the show from

Comedy / Romance

  • How I Met Your Mother
    • A father recounts to his children, through a series of flashbacks, the journey he and his four best friends took leading up to him meeting their mother. A hilarious story of friends, love, and many hi-jinx.
    • Featuring Big Names such as Neil Patrick Harris and Jason Segel
  • Rules of Engagement
    • Two couples and their single friend, all at different stages in their relationships, deal with the complications of dating, commitment and marriage.
    • Featuring David Spade and Patrick Warburton
  • New Girl
    • After a bad break-up, Jess, an offbeat young woman, moves into an apartment loft with three single men. Although they find her behavior very unusual, the men support her – most of the time.

  • The Mindy Project
    • A young Ob/Gyn doctor balances her personal and professional life, surrounded by quirky co-workers in a small office.
    • Featuring Mindy Kaling
  • Jane the Virgin
    • A young, devout Catholic woman discovers that she was accidentally artificially inseminated. A spoof on novellas.
  • Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
    • A woman is rescued from a doomsday cult and starts life over again in New York City.
  • Sex and the City  (Mature)
    • Four female New Yorkers gossip about their sex lives (or lack thereof) and find new ways to deal with being a woman in the ’90s.
    • Featuring Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Catrell, Cynthia Nixon
  • Last Man Standing
    • A married father of three tries to maintain his manliness in a world increasingly dominated by women.
    • Featuring Tim Allen
  • Happy Endings
    • This Chicago-set sitcom follows the intertwined lives of six young urbanites trying to learn the ropes of adulthood. Through breakups and whatever other curve-balls life throws them, the pals stick together.
  • Ally McBeal
    • Ally McBeal is a single young lawyer looking for love and fulfillment in life. She works for a Boston Law firm with her ex-lover and his wife, a money loving boss and an annoying receptionist. With all that is going on she must contend with her feelings and her over active imagination.
    • Featuring Calista Flockhart. Robert Downy Jr, Jon BonJovi, and a young Hayden Pannetiere
      Guest appearances by BIG music names including  Barry White, Elton John, Al Green, and Josh Groban
  • The Goldbergs
    • This Nostalgic ABC show takes place in Jenkintown, Pennsylvania in the 1980s and follows the lives of a family named The Goldbergs.
    • Based on Adam Goldberg’s (Director) childhood
  • Raising Hope
    • Jimmy becomes a single parent to an infant after the mother he had a one-night stand with ends up on death row.
  • Drop Dead Diva
    • A vapid aspiring model killed in a car crash gets brought back to life as an intelligent, overweight lawyer, hoping to find the meaning of inner beauty.
    • This one is much better than it sounds – laced with tons of romance and comedy.
  • Hart of Dixie
    • New Yorker and new doctor Zoe Hart accepts an offer from a stranger, Dr. Harley Wilkes, to work in his medical practice in Bluebell, Alabama. She arrives to find he has died and left half the practice to her in his will.

Suspense / Drama

  • Revenge
    • An emotionally troubled young woman makes it her mission to exact revenge against the people who wronged her father.
  • Person of Interest
    • An ex-assassin and a wealthy programmer save lives via a surveillance AI that sends them the identities of civilians involved in impending crimes. However, the details of the crimes–including the civilians’ roles–are left a mystery.
  • Dexter (Mature)
    • By day, mild-mannered Dexter is a blood-splatter analyst for the Miami police. But at night, he is a serial killer who only targets other murderers.
  • House
    • An antisocial maverick doctor who specializes in diagnostic medicine does whatever it takes to solve puzzling cases that come his way using his crack team of doctors and his wits.
  • Orange is the New Black (Mature)
    • Convicted of a decade old crime of transporting drug money to an ex-girlfriend, normally law abiding Piper Chapman is sentenced to a year and a half behind bars to face the reality of how life changing prison can really be.
  • Bones
    • Forensic anthropologist, Dr. Temperance “Bones” Brennan, and cocky FBI special agent Seeley Booth build a team to investigate murders – and quite often, there isn’t more to examine than rotten flesh or mere bones.
  • The Blacklist
    • A new FBI profiler, Elizabeth Keen, has her entire life uprooted when a mysterious criminal, Raymond Reddington, who has eluded capture for decades, turns himself in and insists on speaking only to her.
  • Parenthood
    • The lives and tragedies of the Braverman family tree. Warning – Have tissues nearby!
  • White Collar
    • A white collar criminal agrees to help the FBI catch other white collar criminals using his expertise as an art and securities thief, counterfeiter, and conman.
  • Grey’s Anatomy
    • A drama centered on the personal and professional lives of five surgical interns and their supervisors.
  • Private Practice
    • A spin-off of the medical drama “Grey’s Anatomy” centering on the life of neonatal surgeon Addison Montgomery.
  • How to Get Away with Murder
    • A group of ambitious law students and their brilliant criminal defense professor become involved in a twisted murder plot that promises to change the course of their lives.
  • Nurse Jackie (Mature)
    • A drug-addicted nurse struggles to find a balance between the demands of her frenetic job at a New York City hospital and an array of personal dramas.
  • Body of Proof
    • Medical examiner Megan Hunt’s unique approach to solving crimes puts her at odds with her superiors.
  • Rescue Me (Mature)
    • Tommy Gavin deals with the fears of his job as a post 9/11 firefighter and seeing his ex-wife dating other men.
  • Nashville
    • A fading country music star comes into conflict with a rising young star.

  • Rizzoli and Isles
    • Detective Jane Rizzoli and Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Maura Isles team up to solve crimes in Boston.
  • Brothers and Sisters
    • The story of the drama surrounding a family’s adult siblings.
  • The Sopranos (Mature)
    • New Jersey mob boss, Tony Soprano, deals with personal and professional issues in his home and business life, which affects his mental state and ends up seeking professional psychiatric counseling.
  • Scandal
    • A former White House Communications Director starts her own crisis management firm only to realize her clients are not the only ones with secrets.
